The England captain and record goalscorer is regarded as one of Europe's most prolific strikers and has been tipped to break Alan Shearer's Premier League scoring record of 260 goals.

Known for his accuracy in front of goal and ability to link up with forwards, Kane is regarded as one of the best strikers in the world.

After being released from the Arsenal academy in 2002, Kane joined Tottenham's academy two years later and was promoted to the senior squad at the age of 16 in 2009.

In his early career Kane was loaned out to several league clubs, including Leicester City, Millwall, Norwich City and Leyton Orient.

But he returned to Spurs and became the club's record goalscorer, overtaking Jimmy Greaves' mark of 266 with the opener in a Premier League clash with Manchester City in February 2023.

Kane became England’s all-time leading goalscorer after netting a penalty against Italy in a Euro 2024 qualifier, going ahead of Wayne Rooney who scored 53 England goals in 120 outings.

However, Kane's trophy cabinet is somewhat bare as he has lifted no domestic or international trophies.

He has won the Premier League Golden Boot three times, the 2018 World Cup golden boot, the PFA Young Player of the Year in 2014/15 and numerous other personal awards.

The Tottenham years

In 2009/10, Kane scored 18 goals in 22 appearances for Tottenham's Under-18s which secured him a place on the bench for a League Cup and FA Cup game in the same season, although he did not play any minutes.

After signing a professional contract with Spurs, Kane was loaned out in January 2011 to Leyton Orient, where he remained for the rest of the season. He finished the League One campaign with five goals from 18 games.

In August 2011, he made his first Tottenham start in a UEFA Europa League second-leg tie against Hearts. Despite not scoring, Kane did win a penalty. Kane made another five European appearances, scoring his first goal against Shamrock Rovers in December.

Kane, alongside Ryan Mason, were loaned out for the rest of the season to Millwall. He was named Young Player of the Year at the club after scoring nine goals in 27 appearances.

Kane had a loan spell with Norwich in 2012/13 in the Premier League which was cut short after he suffered a broken metatarsal. After recovering from the injury, Kane would spend the second half of the season with Leicester City in the EFL Championship, where he scored twice in 15 games.

Kane experienced more playing time at Spurs in 2013/14 after the appointment of Tim Sherwood in December, who replaced Andre Villas-Boas following a poor start to the season. Under Sherwood's tenure, Kane gained more exposure with the first team and scored his first goal of the season in a League Cup game against Hull City.

In April, Kane started his first Premier League game and scored during a 5-1 win over Sunderland. Kane would score in the next two matches with goals against West Bromwich Albion and Fulham.

Becoming a key player

The 2014/15 season proved to be pivotal for Kane's career as he became a regular starter in the Tottenham line-up under manager Mauricio Pochettino.

He scored 21 Premier League goals - equalling a club record for league goals alongside Jurgen Klinsmann, Gareth Bale and Teddy Sheringham. He also netted an additional 10 goals in other competitions, bringing his total to 31 in 51 games.

During the season, where Kane captained Spurs in April for a league game against Burnley, the club missed out on League Cup glory after losing to Chelsea 2-0 in the final. Kane was named PFA Young Player of the Year and was named in PFA's Team of the Year alongside Chelsea's Diego Costa.

In 2015/16, Kane continued his prolific form in front of goal and inspired Spurs to their first top-four finish in the Premier League since 2011/12 under Harry Redknapp.

Kane - who was named Player of the Month by the Premier League on three occasions - was instrumental in securing Champions League soccer at White Hart Lane by scoring 25 goals. It made him the highest scoring Spurs player in a single season domestically. He also pipped comprariot Jamie Vardy by one goal to win the Golden Boot.

Injury to Hugo Lloris in 2016/17 saw Kane captain Spurs on the opening day of the season, assisting Victor Wanyama during a 1-0 victory. In September 2016, Kane made his Champions League debut but during the 2-1 defeat to Monaco at Wembley Stadium. Spurs eventually finished runners-up to Chelsea in the league - their highest position in Premier League history with a points tally of 86 points.

With 29 goals Kane won the Golden Boot and became just the fifth player to win the award on two successive occasions. Kane also joined an exclusive list of scoring more than 20 goals in three consecutive seasons alongside Thierry Henry, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Alan Shearer.

Breaking records

In 2017/18, Kane scored his 100th goal in 169 appearances for Spurs after finding the net against Everton in the Premier League. Kane continued his scoring form in September after bagging first Champions League hat-trick against Cypriot champions APOEL.

By the end of the calendar year, Kane had scored 39 Premier League goals, overtaking the previous record set by Shearer at 36.

Kane became the club's top goalscorer of the Premier League era in January 2018 as he broke Sheringham's record of 97 goals for Spurs and by February, he joined the 100 club after scoring in Tottenham's 2-2 draw against Liverpool. Spurs retained their position in the top-four to secure Champions League soccer yet again.

Mourinho and Kane

In 2018/19, Kane endured an injury-hit campaign and an inconsistent Spurs stumbled to a fourth position finish. Pochettino's side progressed into the Champions League final following dramatic wins over Manchester City and Ajax in the quarter-finals and semi-finals.

Despite Lucas Moura's match-winning hat trick in Amsterdam, an unfit Kane was selected ahead of him for the final against Liverpool, which Tottenham went on to lose 2-0.

In June 2020, with the Premier League returning during the Covid-19 pandemic, Kane scored his 200th goal for the club and first of 2020 having recovered from a hamstring injury. He ended the season with 18 league goals, despite a three-month injury layoff.

In the 2020/21 campaign he netted his 23rd goal of the season against Leicester in May to win his third Premier League Golden Boot. He also won the Playmaker of the season award for most assists and collected only his second Tottenham Player of Season gong.

The following season was less successful for Kane and came with it rumours that he was expected to leave Spurs for Manchester City in the summer.

That move never transpired, but Kane knuckled down and scored 27 goals in 50 matches across all competitions in 2021/22 as the club finished fourth and qualified for Champions League football.

In early February of the 2022/23 season, Kane moved out on his own as Tottenham's record goalscorer, overtaking Jimmy Greaves' mark of 266 with the opener in a Premier League match against Manchester City.

England calling

Kane made his England debut in 2015 and scored his first international goal against Lithuania in a Euro 2016 qualifier.

Another four goals would follow in qualifiers and friendlies before being selected in the starting line-up for Euro 2016. It was a tournament to forget for Kane and England, who were humiliatingly knocked out by Iceland in the last 16.

Kane was named captain ahead of the 2018 World Cup in Russia. England reached the semi-finals of the tournament and were knocked out by Croatia, who defeated them 2-1 in extra time.

Kane helped England secure Euro 2020 qualification, scoring in every game of the qualifying campaign. He netted 12 times, equalling the most goals by an Englishman in a year.

After a slow start to the competition, Kane failed to score in any of England's group games. But in the round of 16, Kane netted his first against Germany, before adding a further two to his tally in the quarter-finals against Ukraine.

In England's semi-final clash against Denmark, Kane stepped up to take a penalty in extra time with the scores locked at 1-1. His initial shot was saved but he pounced on Kasper Schmeichel's spilled save to score and send England through to their first international final since 1966.

In the Euro 2020 final against Italy, despite his good goal scoring form in the games prior, Kane was unable to find the net in 120 minutes of play as the game went to penalties after finishing 1-1.

The skipper stepped up first for England and scored, however it wasn't to be as England lost the penalty shootout 3-2.

At the 2022 World Cup, Kane failed to scored in the group even though England rattled in nine goals, but opened his account against Senegal in the round of 16.

But England's hopes were dashed in the quarter-final against France. Aurelien Tchouameni's early thunderbolt opened the scoring, only for Kane to level from the spot and equal Rooney's goalscoring record for the national team.

France's all-time scorer Olivier Giroud restored the World Cup holders' lead and it proved to be the winner after Kane blazed over a late penalty in a crushing 2-1 exit.
